Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Iowa

Rip-off of elderly grandfather

My elderly grandfather (91) is being taken advantage of and being ripped off of all his possessions by an acquaintance. Most recently my sister learned of the quick sale of his farm arranged by/for this acquaintance, and we do not feel he is competent enough to have done so. My sister questioned the lawyer listed on the paperwork, but believes (as does a neighbor) that the lawyer "is in on it". As per the sale "agreement" he has to remove all contents of an outbuilding by 11/15 and he will be allowed to stay until 5/1/00; if not, he must vacate the premises 11/15 -- he has nowhere to go, and no arrangements have been made. My sister has noticed his lifelong acquisitions (antiques mainly) "disappearing" for some time now. We are not interested in any material items, only concerned what is going on and what can be done -- we feel hopeless.

Re: Rip-off of elderly grandfather

Hi, I'd like to know who you are before I give advice, but I'd suggest you see an attorney quickly. Waiting will only complicate the situation even more than it sounds like it is. I have many attorney who handle matters such as the one your grandfather faces. If it leads to civil litigation I would gladly help. Call and let my secretary Toni know we spoke and I wanted to talk directly with you.
