Parents died and taxes have not been paid for property in italy does property go to state or does it go to next of kin??

You have 10 years to accept the inheritance, if you do not, property go to State. If you have accepted, but not paid taxes (imposta di successione), State makes an attachments of assets (forced execution) that takes years to end, so you can pay debts.

The fact property taxes have not been paid, doens't imply the succession of the Italian State.

This event could happen only if heirs don't accept the inheritance.

Anyway, if they do accept it, they will have to pay real estate taxes, also for the past years.
