Legal Question in Traffic Law in Italy

Tickets for Tourists in Italy and Europe

Hello,

I work for an European Travel/Guidebook company, and we have recived numerous calls from Travelers who have recieved letters from a third party collections company suggesting parking and/or moving violations 2-12 months prior. We are aware of automated cameras stationed in city centers, and the letters look legitimate.

What is the best course of action for the following scenarios:

1) Traveler with the intention of returning to Italy to rent a car at a later time

2) Person not returning to Italy, but to other EU/Schengen countries

3) Person never returning to Europe.

Thank you for your help,

Chadd

Re: Tickets for Tourists in Italy and Europe

Does Americans travel to Italy and Europe by car?

However according with Italian Law only few serious traffic tickets also generate crimes.

In those cases we strongly recommend to consult an admitted Italian lawyer.

On the contrary, ordinary traffic tickets, as parking, are hardly pursue by the authority and the letters are just an attempt to collect money.

I do not think that the letter are from a company legitimate to collect money for parking and/or moving violations.

In any case the expire time is 6 months for serving the letter by the authorized authorities, and not from a private company, as I assume you mean.

Fothermore if it does not concerns a criminal offence, there is no problem for the travellers with intention of returning to Italy to rent a car at a later time.

Hoping you can understand

my best regards.
