Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Kansas

Today my boyfriend was given a summons for me to go to court saying that an old landlord of mine was suing me for the money i owe but right now i have no job and no way to get to the town for court. Do i have to go to court for this or can i just not show up and let them put it with my other debt?.. could i go to jail for not going for something non criminal?

If a defendant fails to appear or Answer a Petition, the plaintiff can take judgement by default. But, one cannot be incarcerated for a civil judgement. If you are later served with a Show Cause for Citation Order, and you fail to appear, an arrest warrant can be issued

Good luck
