Return of Stolen Property

In 1998 my grandmother's ring was stolen out of my house. I recently found it in a local pawnshop. I was told by an employee that I could have it back if I could remember the last name of the person last known to have my stuff. I got the person's last name. I went back to retrieve my things after 4 years. I was then told that the employee should not have said that and I had to pay to get my ring back. The police would not help because it was passed the statute of limitations. Is there any legal way to get my money refunded?

Based only on the facts you have provided, I can only see one person who could be liable for the money, and that is the person you stole the ring. If you know who that person is, you MAY still be within the civil statute of limitations for an action against them. See and attorney immediately, as time is not on your side.
