Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Kansas

Just contacted by Attorney for my former employer that they would like me to be a witness for a civil suit brought by a party where I helped negotiate a contract. There is some confusion on specific language and they want me to appear to discuss my interpretation of the langauge. The contract is dated July 2001. The attorney asked questions for about an hour by phone. The Trial is in California Superior Court and I live in Kansas. Do I have to comply with their request without a subpoena? If I receive a subpoena do I have to comply? If I don't comply - can I be arrested in Kansas? They never mentioned any reimbursement for being a witness nor did I ask. What can I request in fees if I do comply? Thanks

It is likely that you would be due dome recompense for your time and travel. But, this is really a question for a California attorney. You should ask your compensation and subpoena questions to one of them. It is unlikely that you would be arrested in Kansas for not appearing in a civil suit across the country.

Good cluck
