Severence pay

Our company was recently bought out by another company. The present employees were told about a severence package. The new co. wants to dole the severence out weekly instead of in a lump sum. Is this legal?

Your question is unclear. Are you speaking of severance pay received pursuant to a contractual severance pay package arranged between the two companies or are you speaking of severance pay mandated by unemployment security laws? In the first case, I would refer you to the contract and in the second, I suggest you check K.S.A. 44-704 to see if it is applicable.
