Legal Question in Consumer Law in Kentucky

I recently bought a car from a dealer in Illinois and I live in Kentucky. The title for the car was in the maiden name of the previous owner. She signed the title using her married name and the state of Kentucky requires a copy of a marriage license before they will allow the title to be transferred. I was unaware of this when I purchased the car and the dealer is having trouble obtaining a copy of the marriage license. What legal actions can I take toward the dealer since they completed the deal without having all the paperwork I would need to be able to get the car titled in Kentucky.

Why is the dealer having trouble getting a copy of the marriage license? It's public record. You can always get a copy yourself from Springfield (provided she was married in Illinois). There are companies that will obtain those records for you for a fee (which the dealer should pay).

However, the legal remedies you have concerning the lack of title will need to be pursued in Illinois, because that is where the transaction took place. Kentucky won't have jurisdiction.
