Legal Question in Criminal Law in Kentucky

If an e mail account is opened in my name trying to collect money for someone whom I am kin to, what are the chances of me learning who this is and can I press crimal charges against them?

The chances aren't great. It's a crime, but good luck getting the police or the Feds to take up your case, if no money was actually lost because of it. You'd have to hand it to them, wrapped in a pretty bow. If you really want to pursue it, you'd need to first file suit against "John Doe" to subpoena records from Internet service providers. But don't be surprised if the criminal scumbag trying to steal from your relative turns out to hail from Taiwan or somewhere equally untouchable. The reality is that scammers impersonate real people all the time in order to make the scams seem more real. Grandma may not give her account information to someone in Nigeria, but she just might when her "grandson" emails and says he needs money for an emergency, here's where to send it...
