I have an uncle who has had a live-in caregiver for several years. Recently he was hospitalized and through this process my mother realized that the caregiver may no longer be competent to care for him, she is suffering from dementia also. When my mother voiced her concern she found out that the caregiver's son now has POA over my uncle. My uncle has no children and his wife preceded him in death, he has only two sisters. He made clear to his two sisters his final wishes before he had dementia and my mother is concerned that he may be being exploited by his caregiver's son who lives in another state and is a lawyer. It seems that this arrangement presents a conflict of interest. Is there anything my mother can do to ease her mind? What do you suggest? Thanks

Contact your local Adult Protective Services office and request an investigation for possible abuse/neglect/exploitation. Good luck.
