Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

adopting stepchildren

I read ur answer to the mother asking about her fiance adopting her son and you said the father has to be given legal notice, even if he= doesnt find out. What does that mean?

I am in the same situation, but the biological father kept harrassing me to get a DNA test done so he can be in her life. I agreed to it but, he keeps avoiding me, even though he hasnt been in her life since my pregnancy with her and she is 3. He just now decided that he wants to do this, but I fear him in my daughters life. What can I do to keep him out? I fear hes just going to keep harrassing me and causing problems and not want to get anything done. Please help me!

Re: adopting stepchildren

There are a few different things you can do, but they depend on exactly what he is doing that is harrassing.

When I say a parent has to be given notice, there are certain laws and rules of procedure that dictate the steps that have to be taken. You are really going to need to either go to a pro bono clinic for legal help or hire a lawyer because these custody issues can be like riding a pogo stick in a mine field.

If he is violent, or threatening violence, then you can get help from a domestic violence program and you can file for an Emergency Protection Order.
