Aunt has nephew in foster care

Just found out I have nephew in foster care. Do I have a right to try to get custody or visitation. Mom worthless, dad in jail.

Yes, you can seek custody. You will probably need the help of an attorney, as you will have to either (a) get involved in the ongoing juvenile proceedings, or (b)intitiate them.

And deal with (ick) social workers.

It is not a simple process and you and your home will have to be investigated by the social workers, so be ready for that.

Yes, as an aunt, you can be considered for custody. The first thing to do is notify social services and ask for a home evaluation to be done. If approved, you will get custody without needing an attorney.

If they refuse to consider you, you can complain up the chain of command with the Cabinet.

Also, you can file a motion to intervene with the court. If the social workers are not in your court, you likely will not get far without an attorney.
