Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

Emergency Protective Order Procedure

I would like to know the process of an emergency protective order in Kentucky. Do both parties have to appear in court? How does this protect someone and how long? Are the fees high?

Re: Emergency Protective Order Procedure

Emergency Protective Orders for protection from domestic violence can be obtained by going to the office of the clerk of court in your county and completing the paperwork. It is not complicated nor is there a fee. The initial order will be good for 14 days, and the alleged offending party will be served with notice of a hearing. At the hearing, it will decided whether to continue the protective order. The orders can be granted for up to three years.
