Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

How much pull can the paternal grandparents exert if my children's step-father pursues adopting them? Their biological father has been in and out of prison (felony charges for crimes against me) and is currently in a mental facility (again). The children requested this and the grandparents are the only obstacles I foresee.

The only obstacle from the grandparents you face is a request for visitation through the courts. If you act on the adoption, you may be able to avoid the visitation issue with the grandparents as once the adoption is granted the grandparents would have no visits unless they have a court order to that effect already.

You may have an obstacle with the biological father if he contests same, however, given what you have stated in this request, you may be able to adopt with the documentation of crimes and mental instability.

You need to consult an attorney familiar with contested adoptions.
