Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

Do It Yourself Uncontested Divorce

My husband and I are filing for divorce. I filed the petition, husband's response and waiver, property settlement agreement(which entails assets, marital debts, child support agreement and custody and waiver of maintenance on either side)and an Appendix E (notice of dissolution preceeding with minor children). When I filed these with the circuit court clerk's office, I was told that this only got the petition in the system and that there were other papers to file. I thought I had all I needed. What am I missing? When my husband and I initially consulted an attorney, we were told that we wouldn't have to appear in court or anything since we were in agreement on everything. But we couldn't afford to continue with the idea of retaining an attorney to do this. Please help.

There may be local rules involved. Ask the clerk for a copy or at least have a look at them.

Other documents that may be needed are a motion for pre-trial/final hearing, etc. If before a Domestic Relations Commissioner

you may have to prepare the "Findings and Recommendations" if the Commissioner requires it. Testimony will have to be given either by deposition, if permitted by the Court

or in person. A final "Decree of Dissolution" will have to be prepared for the Court's approval if the Commissioner's findings are accepted. Everyone has to "go to Court". These things are not done just by "filing papers". This just starts the process.
