Rights of power of attorney

One of my patients daughter was demanding to veiw her fathers medical chart stating that she was his power of attorney, What information does she legally have a right to veiw or have shared with her concerning her fathers lab results x-ray reports ect. There was no legal documentation on this patients chart in reguards to a designated power of attorney only a living will.

Re: Rights of power of attorney (POA)

First, it would depend on the wording of the POA. If there are no healthcare-related provisions, the safer course of action would be to protect the privacy of the patient.

If there is a healthcare surrogate (HCS) document, appointing the daughter as HCS, this would change the situation, and the HCS, in my opinion, would have the right to access such records.
