Legal Question in Employment Law in Kentucky

My question is related to rejecting the accepted job offer and possible consequences.

I accepted a job from company A (a small company in Kentucky, US) and they waited for 3 months to finish my graduation. But another more promising job came from company B which has greater impact on my career and family and so I accepted offer B. Company A is upset about it and told me that they might go for breach of implicit contract and damages suit. I did not sign any contract with company A except an company agreement/application ("at will" type application) and I had sent acceptance letter to company A by email.

Please tell me if company A would really go for lawsuit? would it be worth for company B to go for lawsuit considering that at this stage of my career I do not have assets? What should be my stand in this situation to avoid any damage to my career?

Should I mention this situation to company B?

Sounds like they are blowing smoke, but if they gave you any sort of consideration for taking the job, perhaps sign on bonus or something, then you might have a contract. To be sure, you might just take all of your paperwork to a local attorney for review to see if they might have a case against you. While employment contracts are generally at will, there can be exceptions when you never started the job.

I wouldn't mention it to your new employer unless you absolutely have to. It might show them that you don't take your commitments seriously, and could effect your new job. Don't let company A's sour apples spoil your new job. We're in a recession, they'll have you replaced in no time.
