Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Kentucky

My landlord has agreed to deduct only $30.00 from my rent of $750.00. I moved in on the 26th of September, today is the 11th of October. My toilets have not worked since day one. They do not flush. The maintance man has been in and out at least 5 times trying to repair them but nothing seems to work. Today he said the landlord would have to contact the contracter because it seemed to be a problem within the sewer lines. Two and a half weeks later we STILL have no functional toilets in the house!! Is $30.00 really all I am able to deduct? I have two children, one of which has contracted a bladder infection from refraining to use the restroom. Please advise.

Sounds like your landlord has breached the lease and his statutory duties. Landlords have a duty to repair under the Uniform Residential Landlord Tenant Act, which Fayette County has adopted. Legal Aid's website has a great deal of helpful information on this topic and even sample letters if you don't get an attorney. If you can't afford an attorney, try the local pro bono program.
