Legal Question in Personal Injury in Kentucky

I got in a wreck about a year ago and paid for the damage because the at-fault driver didn't have insurance. I have been trying to figure out how to get this driver or owner of the car in court. I need to know their correct address in order to get the process started. I do not know if they live at the address provided on the police report. Should I just hire an attorney?

You're in Lexington, I see. Unless it's an apartment, look up the address on www.fayettepva.com to see if the individual owns the property. If they do, definitely go after them, they have something to put a lien on.

Even if that's not his correct address anymore, finding him likely won't be a problem. I bet I can find this guy with a few key strokes. The only problem in suing an individual is that while you can easily get a judgment against this person who hit you, enforcing the judgment may be tough. If the guy is a big enough loser to be driving around uninsured, which is illegal in the state of Kentucky, he probably doesn't own property you can put a lien on. He probably doesn't have wages you can garnish. So all you've got is a piece of paper that says you're entitled to money that you'll never see.

I'd recommend trying to figure out where this guy is yourself and if you can recover from him before hiring an attorney and throwing good money after bad, unless you really just want to stick it to him. You can start by going to the county clerk's office and running a title history on the guy's vehicle. If someone else owned the vehicle, you might be able to recover from the owner instead.
