Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Kentucky

Child abuse case....

Hi, a family member & I reported a case of possible child abuse about 2 1/2 - 3 months ago. A younger family member who is a high school student and female, approached us and told us that one of her male high school teachers was sexually harrassing her and other female students. The girls were under the age of 18. We contacted social services about the matter who investigated it further. After--name removed--investigation--name removed--the school, the social worker learned the allegations were true after many girls came forward. The case may now go--name removed--trial, but we haven`t heard any more on the case. We told the social worker we didn`t want involved--name removed--reporters. So my questions are, how long does it usually take for a case like this--name removed--go--name removed--court? If the family member and I who reported have--name removed--go--name removed--court, could we plead the fifth--name removed--protect our family`s and reputations since we reported? Thanks...

Re: Child abuse case....

To answer your last question first, the answer is no, if you were under subpoena to testify in the criminal trial, you would not be able to invoke the Fifth Amendment and not testify unless you yourself were in some way criminally implicated

(or potentially so)in the matter.

Cases such as these might take up to a year to bring to trial.

(If my memory is correct, you have already asked these or similar questions on the BBS regarding this particular situation.)
