Legal Question in Tax Law in Kentucky

are taxes due

My husbands Grandpa died 15 years ago and his Grandma died 13 years ago. The farm has never been taken out of their names. The over seer of it keeps saying that no taxes are due because it is under the Homestead act. Is this true? How long can they keep it this way by law?

Re: are taxes due

While I am not sure specifically about KY's homestead laws, traditionally they only apply if the property is actually used by the owner as his/her principal residence. Secondly, I do not know why the property has not been retitled into the names of the current owners after all these years. It may be that the overseer wants to retain the homwstead exemption and may not be able to do so if the current owners do not reside there. The new Deed is usually filed when the estate is completed and in all this time it should have been completed.

I need more information to more accurately respond to your inquiry.
