Legal Question in International Law in Lebanon

Can someone sue you? And what can you do to protect your self?

I had a friend whom i trusted and i deposited an ammount of money with him and i have the legal transaction of the money to his account! When i asked for it back, he tried to break all means of contacts with me? When i gave up hope that he might give it back on his own? I called him a back stabber and thief? Suddenly he heard about it and paid me back my money and said he's gonna sue me for calling him a thief? How is that possible ? And when he paid the money isnt he admitting for guilt? And he live in another country.

It would be a BIG mistake IF he did.

It takes more than a couple of words to make a good defamation case, notwithstanding the witnesses, their relation to the opponent & why they are willing to testify against you in the 1st place!

Other issues we as lawyers consider, is whether the benefit we're getting out of this is worth the cost itself?

Let alone the fact that should he lose it, which he will, you could always get back at him with same & ask for the verdict to be published in newspapers as it involves your reputation, which is a bigger scandale than any kind of words you might've said about him!

Don't hesitate to keep me posted should you need further assistance!
