Legal Question in Disability Law in Louisiana

I live in Louisiana and my daughter was beaten to the point of unconsciousness and the beating continued while she was unconscious by a 17 year old boy while she was at school.....is this considered aggravated battery. If not...what would the charge be? She did not hit him at all. She is a white girl in a predominately black school and the boy was black. he is in jail at this time.

It sounds like second degree battery, a felony, because she lost consciousness. If it was racially motivated, it could be a hate crime which would carry additional penalties. He is an adult under the criminal code.
