I am considering filing for bankruptcy. I would like to know how much of a negative affect it will have on my credit in 6 mos to a year since I will be renting an apartment at that time.

It is impossible to tell the effect on your credit relative to getting an apartment without an independent review of your circumstances.
Bankruptcy is certainly a negative reporting item, but some times your credit score is already low enough to where bankruptcy does not affect it that much. Other times, the drop in score can be dramatic.
