Re: Forming an LLC

Two primary thoughts:

First, when going into business, it is important to consider your options, and the different types of business entities you can open. An attorney will be very familiar with these entities and will provide advice that can save you headaches, heartaches and money.

Second, I nearly always recommend that people form a business entity instead of going into business as an individual. Again, this will save you headaches, heartaches and money.

I make these two preliminary points to underscore the importance of business entities, and forming them correctly. Although this carries an expense, it is an expense of doing business and you should do what you can to make it happen.

For general business consultations with an attorney, my firm charges $200 per hour, and consultations in this regard take about 1 - 1 1/2 hours.

We put LLCs (and similar entities) together for 1 person businesses within about 1-2 weeks, and for $450, plus the filing fee (LA is $75).

We put LLCs (and similar entities) together for 2+ person businesses within about 1-3 weeks, and for between $800 and 4500, depending on the complexity of the company's agreement.

Good luck.
