Legal Question in Business Law in Louisiana

Publishing Recipes

I have been collecting recipes for 25 years, from magazines, newspapers and other sources such as friends and relatives. I must have thousands. Not long ago, my neighbor suggested that I should create and publish a cookbook using the recipes I've collected. I'd love to do this, but since I didn't write the recipes myself, I'm not sure of the legalities. If I don't claim credit and only put ''compiled by'' can I publish a book of recipes collected from other sources even if I don't remember where they originated?

Re: Publishing Recipes

Not knowing the source of your receipes, it appears you could violate any number of copyrights. If sued by any one of a number of sources...i.e. the author of the receipe or the publisher of the paper or magazine you could be cast for damages. In view of the potential grief you could suffer, I would not recommend you undertaking such a task.
