Legal Question in Construction Law in Louisiana

Dishonest contrator

Hi..I had a contractor give me a bid on paper to replace some damaged siding on my house, we agreed on 1500.00 and he said he needed 30% up front for materials so I wrote him a check for 500.00.

He said he could do it 2 days (thurs/friday, but by friday afternoon and he has not started and so I asked for my deposit back so I could find someone else and he refuses to return the money. Is the BBB my only recourse?

Can I report his company to the credit bureau?

thank you in advance

I have a copy of the contract and the check he cashed

You can also report him to the LA Office of the Attorney General. Next time don't pay anything until the work is done and go with him to buy materials. You can also file a criminal complaint for criminal fraud or theft so the police have his name. He probably isn't licensed or bonded; so you should get one that is.
