Legal Question in Consumer Law in Louisiana

I have clothing that has been ruined by a drycleaner who refuse to compensate me for damages. Also I paid for dry cleaning and the refuse to give me my garment, I had to phoned the police. I was charged one price for cleaning this garment and the drycleaner store copy indicates a different price. Can I file a claim against the drycleaner for the actions taken.

Yes. You can file a small claim in your local Justice of the Peace court. The cost of filing is usually less than $150 and the loser pays the court costs. You don't need an attorney and the process is simple. Just find the local JOP which has jurisdiction over the dry cleaner (file suit where the dry cleaner is, not where you live) and go there to file a claim. They have forms you can fill out by hand and file immediately. There is no discovery process. All you do is file the claim, get an answer, then set it for trial. Have all of your evidence and witnesses ready when you go to trial.
