Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Louisiana

Hi....I hope that you can help me with this question... I have a judgement that has been placed in the Credit Bearu. I was not able to pay my creditor becasue of a marraige that went bad. I am now trying to satisfy the loan and pay it off. I called the Creditor and asked if I could satisfy the amount that I owe, and I was told that they're other fees attached... such as Attorney fees.

I also called the Civil District Court and was told no Judgement has been filed and there's nothing in the Public Record's stating it.

So my question is what can I do... or what should I do at this point???

Thanks

Dee

First you must confirm that there is a Judgment, or at least that a Suit has been filed. I am afraid that by calling the creditor you probably gave him some contact information that may lead him to be able to get a Judgment if there was not one already, or to serve you with the lawsuit if he could not find you when he filed the suit.. You do not say how you found out there was a Judgment in the first place. So, you will need to go to the clerk of court in the Parish where the suit would have been filed and ask someone to help you. Most clerk's offices have very helpful personnel as long you are courteous. When you search at their office, you usually find out if there is something filed against you. When you ask over the phone, they do a computer search and many times there can be a mistake that causes them to miss something. Whatever you discover will determine your next move is.

If it could have been filed in a City or Parish Court, you may have to check with the clerk's offices for each court. Most clerk's offices have very helpful personnel as long you are courteous.
