Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana

attempted murder and armed robbery charge

I was wondering if someone would help me with a situation? I have a brother who went in jail at the age of 17 and he was sentenced to 15 years for both crimes together (concurrently) and this was his first time getting locked up and I was wanting to know if he had any possible hope for getting his sentencing reduced and either getting a post conviction to help him out. I hsve been reading alot of cases online and I dont understand as to why it would be so hard for someone to help him. I have seen celebrities have muder charges with life sentences and get right out of jail because they have a lot of money it seems to me like it is a discrimination thing.

Re: attempted murder and armed robbery charge

Every state has its own criminal laws and ways of enforcing them. Louisiana law includes many crimes where the sentence must be served "at hard labor without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence". The two crimes you named are among those with that penalty. 15 years is considered a "low end" sentence for those offenses in several parts of the state.
