Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana

My attorney is charging me a fee( outside of what her percentage would be for a win or settlement) for either a deposition(expert) or possibly multiple depositions. Is this normal or am I getting taken advantage of?

You wrote this question with the subject as CRIMINAL LAW. I assume it is a personal injury case, since I do not know of any amounts you win or settle for in a criminal law matter. Look at the contract you signed with the lawyer. It should spell everything out clearly. You cannot be charged a percentage of your case unless the agreement is in writing. If he is charging you an "attorney's fee" for the deposition and you agreed his fee was only to be a percentage, then you may have reason for concern. However, he may be talking about the "expert's fee" for giving the deposition. I do not know an expert who will give a deposition in his capacity as an expert who does not charge a fee. His fee is not part of the lawyer's compensation.
