Not counting any type of civil action , If a person is sent to jail for theft and has served his sentence , is he under any obligation to pay back the monetary restitution for the crime. Amount of money is $100,000.
My opinion without knowing more is you do not owe the hundred grand "unless restitution was part of the sentence, probation or parole" or, "unless the person you stole the money from sued you within the prescription period and obtained a Judgment against you for the amount they say you owe."
Mr. Pizzolatto is mostly correct. I wouls add that, if the conviction were in federal court the judge could order that restitution was a condition of supervised release.
