Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana

Public drunkenness plea?

My buddy and I walked out of a bar @ 12:30AM, on Bourbon St. and got arrested by NOPD officers. After 12 hours in the holding tank at OPP, we had found out that we were charged with intoxication. We pled not guilty in the muni. court, and are now wondering how leniant the DA is, in offerign a plea bargain? Any other advice is appreciated.

Re: Public drunkenness plea?

From the facts that you were arrested in New Orleans by the NOPD, held in custody at the Orleans Parish Prison, and apparently arraigned there also when you pled "not guilty," you must consult with a Louisiana criminal defense attorney because that state's laws apply. This is true despite your residency in CA, because the crime was allegedly committed in Louisiana. If you need further assistance in securing a competent and experienced Louisiana attorney, please feel free to call my office.

Re: Public drunkenness plea?

The other response to your question said that you are from California.......unfortunately, I could not come to that conclusion. Anyway, having lived in N.O. for 12 years and visited it for almost my whole 56 years on this earth, tells me that you did more than the following......<<

Intoxication in New Orleans is technically a crime, but drunkeness is a tradition.........so tell me what you really did???? Otherwise, you should be able to call the clerk of the court handling your case and find out what the fine is and be able to pay it through the mail.
