name change in louisiana
If my child was born in 2004 and given his father's last name. Can I change his last name to mine or can I hyphenate his name? His father hasn't had any contact for the last year and doesn't pay any child support.

You need his permission to legally change your child's name. Otherwise, you can change the name only after a court hearing.
