Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

Giving child father's Last Name

I am due to have my baby any day now, and my boyfriend is out of the country with work. He will not be here to sign the birth certificate. Will I still be able to give my child his last name? Does he have to be there to do this? We are not married.

Re: Giving child father's Last Name

My experience is that he has to be there to sign an acknowledgement of paternity. If you were married, then his signature would not be necessary.
