Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

I have been married for almost 3 years, during which I didn't work the last two years cause my husband did not want me to work. I was a stay at home wife and took care of my step son when we got him. My husband had both vehicles in his name and bank acct in his name as well. He recently decided he wanted a divorce and he took the car I drove and hid it from me. I had to move in with family. Does he have the right to do that? He told me that I can have the car back if I sign the papers but I have to pay to transfer title and get insurance.

First and foremost, you should consult with an attorney immediately. Do not delay. You would not want to sign any papers without first having them reviewed. Your husband may be trying to get your signature on documents which may negatively impact your future. Depending on your particular facts, you may be entitled to spousal support. Since Louisiana is a community property state, your attorney would be better equipped to discuss the assets and liabilities of the marriage as well as community property versus separate property. Get legal advice immediately and good luck to you.
