Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

Obligation of custodial parent to ''deliver'' child to other parent

Divorced in LA in 1994,joint custody with me as custodial parent. No specific guidelines on visitation. The ex has moved several times, each time further from my home.I have always met at a half-way point for her to have visitation(not required in papers). Am I obligated to keep doing this? Since visitation is so vague in our papers, will I have to go back to court to make them more specific? And, if my son is invovled in a club or sport and he has meetings/games on her weekends, can she be obligated to come here so he won't miss them? He is now 10 and involving himself in these things and doesn't understand why he should miss them.

Thanks for your help!

The order granting the custody and visitation rights dictate those rights. Anything not covered, is to be agreed upon by the parents. If no agreement can be made, either parent may ask the court to modify the order so that every detail of visitation is spelled out.

As far as the child's extracurricular activities, I choose to believe that a true caring parent will see the advantages of those activities to the child as he/she matures and experiences life. One of the quickest ways a parent can alienate their child is to force the child to go with them and forego an activity that is one which is part of the child's natural progression into adolescence. Because domiciliary parents sometimes abuse a provision prohibiting the visiting parent from making the child miss an activity, the court will scrutinize both the visitation request as well as the "activity" the child does not want to miss.
