On line forums

Can an anonymous poster on an internet forum be held liable for anything that's said to another anonymous poster on the internet forum. All aliases no identies used at all. Nobody knows who anybody is.

Wouldn't the lawsuit harm the offended person more than the anonymous "slander"?

If that is the case, how could anyone sue anyone else? Someone would have to get the site to release identity information, but if they don't have it either then it would cost a lot just to try to find out who to sue.
