Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Louisiana

Being Sued in Small Claims Court

Received citation/summons from city marshall (4*20*01) as notification of suit being filed against me by a credit card company. The amount is for $2500 plus 25% in attorneys fees. I am not sure what option I should take in responding to this action. Should I enter into default by not responding and just submit to the requirements of the judgement to be rendered and the requests of the petition verbatim? Should i file my answer in proper person? How far will this go as far as length and time in money and resources to see this matter thru? Is it worth pursuing legally thru obtaining representation for myself, etc? How about filing an answer, 'demurrer'? How would that affect my case? Is that a good choice. I have ten days to respond which means nine calendar days are left.

I received this question in my mail on 6/13/01, so your time to answer has passed and a judgment might already have been rendered against you. Without knowing if you have a valid defense to the suit, I cannot recommend what action you should take.
