Legal Question in Juvenile Dependency in Louisiana

17 year old wants to leave.

I know a 17 year old girl who has been experiencing phsycial abuse from her mother. It isn't severe, she has left a bruise once for repeadidly slapping her on the arm..things of that nature. The girl wants to move in with my mother. She stays at my mothers house every weekend she can to escape her mothers mental and physical abuse. I was wondering what legally would have to be done. Can she just walk away? Or does she have to be emancipated and how would she achieve that? Her mother will not let her just leave.

Re: 17 year old wants to leave.

The legal issues involving 17 year olds are difficult in Louisiana because they are minors but are not juveniles.

Since she is being hit, I would reccomend that the young woman call child protection, who would intervene and possibly arrange other residence for her.
