Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Louisiana

Required to pay for non-contracted services?

Hello:

I filed suit against a major LA corporation. They (meaning the defendents) took my deposition a couple of weeks ago. Their contracted court room reporter sent a copy of the transcripts to my attorney's office along with a ''copy bill'' of $1000. My attorney promptly called the court room reporting co and told them that we had neither requested nor did we want to pay for the transcripts and to come pick them up. The court room reporters have refused to pick up the scripts and also refused delievery of them when we had them sent back over. My question: Am I liable for paying for these non-requested depo transcripts? If they try and sent it to collections, can it hurt my credit report?

CRs make the most of their money on the printed word, not the deposition, so it's strange that the reporter didn't reach a clear agreement with your lawyer before sending them.

The real question is why your attorney wouldn't want a copy of your deposition? If it's a contingency case, ask your attorney what the problem is and pay for the transcripts yourself.

It sounds like a worrier to me. There was a lot talked about for a copy bill of $1000, and you'd better find out whether that deposition so hurt your case that your lawyer is no longer willing to pay for it.
