Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Louisiana

timeliness

My Mother died May 30,2007. She had a will leaving everything she had to my Father. He died Aug.5,2007. In his will, he left everything to me as sole heir. I contacted the atty. they told me was handling everything for them. They told me it could take up to 6 weeks for everything to be handled, filed, succeeded, (whatever the correct legal terminology is.) Since that time, I have not heard from them. I have called several times to find out just what the problem is, and still do not know. It's always, waiting for the lawyer to get back in town, waiting on contact from creditors for balances, waiting on this or that. None of which is holding much water. I can give specific examples. The last time I spoke to his assistant, (the atty. in question is never in his office, except for the first meeting we had for me to give them all my paperwork,) I was told she didn't like my attitude, and she has run out of patience with me. She said she would no longer speak to me about this. Patience with me!? I'm not the one dragging my feet. There are sufficient funds to pay off the vehicles, insurance, taxes, whatever. I need that money. Do I have any recourse? Can I fire them? Since my parents hired him, am I stuck with him?

Re: timeliness

You can always get a new attorney if you aren't satisfied with the one you have. The new attorney would also deal with the old one.
