Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Louisiana

A while ago my cousin discovered that his real father had passed away and his uncles had claimed all of his fathers property. My cousin discovered this and hired a lawyer who got him $22,000 in cash and a portion of a house in Louisiana. Recently, however, my cousin committed suicide. He received a check for the $22,000 and spent it all but he never forced his uncles to sell the house and I am unsure what exactly is going on with it. Since he committed suicide, who has rights to his portion of the house? Is it considered unclaimed property that anyone can take or is the remaining portion by default now owned by his uncles?

If your cousin had a living child, parent, or living siblings, then they could claim whatever estate he had. It gets more convoluted after that. If there is anything worth anything, it may be worth pursuing. However, if the only property is land and/or a house, no one will buy it without all interests agreeing or being compensated.
