Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Louisiana

lease to own

in oct of 2003 i moved into a house owned by my ''friend''. the oral agreement was we were to pay off the remaining amount due. further down the road she rised the rent from 350 to 500. she said she refinanced it. we continued to pay and she continued to procrastinate about drwing up papers. well, it was supposed to be paid of in aug. 2007. now she says she is going to sell it unless we pay in full for the remainder of two years. is this legal?

Re: lease to own

You should have drawn up the papers, but now it is too late. Unless you have strong evidence of a verbal contract, then you may just have been renting. You could have gone to the clerk of court and seen what mortgages were on the property, but that probably will not help now.
