Legal Question in Traffic Law in Louisiana

tickets

I got a speeding ticket in La and my license is in MS, do I get points even if I am my license in that state?, my second question is can they put you in jail after you go to court and guilty for speeding even if you are in the military? if so, what's the max sentense you can get?

Re: tickets

Miss. doesn't have a point system for licenses and any action taken by La. because of an accumulation of points will have no effect on your license. However, if your license suspended or revoked for say DUI, Miss. will honor the action. If you are jailed, the military will probably treat your absence as an AWOL offense under the UCMJ, so you need to talk with a La. attorney about the likelihood of your being jailed for the offense. Then ask your civilian attorney to coordinate with a military defense counsel about what needs to be done to avoid a UCMJ offense as well.

Re: tickets

Louisiana does not have a "points" system. Louisiana and Mississippi are both part of a "multi-state compact" where violations are reported between states (most of the states are). Therefore a Louisiana traffic conviction can find its way onto your driving record.

I suggest contacting a Louisiana lawyer for assistance. This can probably be resolved.
