Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Louisiana

community property & Inheritance

My wife and I have been married for 27 years. She is inheriting twice as much money from an aunt than her two sisters. She's decided on her own, to share her extra portion with her two sisters. I want to know if her Inheritance is community property, and does she have the right to share this with her sisters without consulting me first.

Re: community property & Inheritance

Inherited property is separate property. She can deal with it without your consent.

She is completely within her rights. It is her separate property.

Depending on the size of her gift she might want to discuss this with a tax attorney.
