Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Louisiana

Protection in Sharing Half an Inheritance

A relative recently died and left me and another family member everything. This includes property,a car, diamond rings, insurance etc.

I live in another state but the other person lives in the state where the relative lived and is taking care of alot of the fomalities.

How do I protect my interest in the estate and property from the other recipient?

Does the other person have to have my permission to sell or take items from the estate?

Sometimes that is impossible. You do not tell us the relationship between yourself in this other person. Not just a family with but personal . But of course would be much better if you at least go there in see what is physically in the estate. At the same time get an inventory all the though the items which are the most valuable in which you may wish. Unless something was specifically set forth as going to you versus the other person sit down without other person and literally divide the items. If necessary and I would strongly recommend this get an attorney who is a specialist in probate in the county in which the person passed away in which the main piece of real property is located. Then give you advise and have them check out whether a probate has been started. Ask them the questions you need to hand ask them with procedures are and how you can protect yourself. You don't give the state in your question and this way too nebulous for anyone to properly answer it. If you have an attorney in California who has a friend in that state in specifically that geographic location hopefully that would be even better. Don't you sit around and pray. take a proactrive role in the estate so the person knows you are "interested in the estate. i have been practicing law in this speciality for over 30 years in the san francisco bay area and if you wish to consult with me you can contact me at 925-945-6000.

Contact a lawyer near where the deceased last lived. This person can guide you and do whatever is necessary to protect your interests.
