Does a succession have to be done when the deceased does not own property other than a car and $1200 in savings. My Mom passed away recently and I am an only child (she was not married)?

You can do a non-judicial succession by affidavit for the bank. No costs involved. You can transfer title to the car by an Affidavit f Heirship from the DMV.
