Re: Legality of raffling concert tickets

As stated in the other attorney response to this question, you must follow state laws concerning games of chance, lotteries, and raffles. Usually, a permit is required, which involves an application process and the permission of a state agency.

Additionally, you should consider state laws concerning the reselling of event tickets. Some states have "anti-scalping" laws which prevent the sale or other transfer of tickets by someone other than the person/business which issues the tickets.

This response is not intended as legal advice. Your rights and obligations will depend upon the particular facts and circumstances affecting this matter. You should consult an attorney in your area to discuss all of the relevant facts and circumstances. No attorney/client relationship is created as a result of this response.

Bad idea. Raffles are subject to tight requirements in most states, and these may include criminal sanctions -- usually, there are more stringent requirements where the activity is for profit than if run to benefit a charity.
