terminating spousal support

divorced in Maine in 2001

decree states I pay support for 10 years. $$400/month for 6 and $300 for 4. she has since moved to WY and remarried 2 years ago. am I required to continue to pay? No other stipulations on paying, just for 10 years.

It depends on the specific language in your divorce judgment. As a general rule, spousal support may usually be modified upon a substantial change of circumstances. However, it is also possible for an order to be non-modifiable (although I would never recommend such a thing).

If she has remarried, then ostensibly she no longer has the need for as much support from you to maintain the standard of living she enjoyed during the marriage; her husband is presumably assisting her with her monthly needs.

Therefore, while I feel that it should be modifiable, your statement that there are no "other stipulations" makes me a bit uneasy. I would have to see the actual judgment to give you a firm opinion.
